About me

Currently I'm a web designer and accessibility subject matter expert in the financial industry. Accessibility not only means easy access for those with disabilities in the built world, but making web sites and apps easy to use for those with disabilities. Making that happen across the enterprise occupies most of my time and attention.

When I’m free, I love to sketch...just ordinary objects, buildings, and people, from real life with ink and a little watercolor. Or, lately I like to play at making messy, colorful, mixed media collages. Nothing like losing track of time, in the flow of the work for a few minutes each day. The process is what feeds me.

I've been an artist all my life starting with finger painting in kindergarten, drawing with crayons, pencils and pens through school, learning the art of photography and design in college years, then quilting and creating fiber art with needle, thread and fabric. Then I began a career in graphic design (logos, brochures and magazines, ad campaigns), and then to working with the code and pixels of computer art and web experiences. The medium changes but curiosity and creativity remain the same.

In the midst of all that I married and put my creative mind to raising three children, keeping a home, caring for my disabled husband and making a living.

Still to come, more content about accessibility and a few samples of my design and art work. Follow me on Instagram @ellenking to see the latest sketches and messiness.
